Setting the Hook

Photo © Ron BrooksHow hard is too hard? How much penetration can I get on a hook set? The results of a class my boys attended when they were young may surprise you. It certainly surprised me!

I learned long ago while dragging shiners around Florida lakes that a powerful hookset was mandatory. A guide friend of mine told me to “rock the boat” with each and every hookset. Of course, as you stated, specks and sea trout require a gentler touch. Great article on a little-known issue.
