A Dolphin Tip

Wednesday July 16, 2008
Photo © Ron BrooksWe looked for dolphin (mahi mahi) three days this week on the Florida Keys. We fished from the edge of the reef out to about 5 miles off in up to 300 feet of water. All we could drum up were some little tunnies and blackfin tunas.

On a tip that the fish were closer to the south bound shipping lanes (about ten miles out), we made it farther off yesterday and found a weedline. And guess what! We found the fish! They weren't huge - just legal schoolies, but we could have caught them on that weedline all day long.

Weather ran us back in to the reef and we called it a day, but we did find the fish.

The tip? Don't give up! And, be willing to accept the advice of others who may know more than you!
