Check Your Knots

Friday July 18, 2008
Have you ever hooked a fish, I mean a good fish, only to have your line apparently break just when you were about to land him? I have, and it is one of the most frustrating events a fisherman can experience. Most of the time when this happens, if you look at the end of the line carefully, you will find the line really did not break. Rather the knot came undone! And when you realize that fact, you become even more frustrated. How many knots do you know how to tie?

I have taught myself how to tie numerous types of knots using Geoff Wilsons manuals. On a regular basis i use the uni, palomar, worlds fair, double uni, blood, allbright special, surgeons loop etc.. I like the blood knot for bay rods 12# mono to 25# flourocarbon its neat and very strong when tied correctly. But for super line (power pro) to flourocarbon leader i find that the allbright special is much stronger and doesn’t need to be re-tied as often. for the big rods 6/0 and up i use the Biminie twist and a cats paw to a wind-on
