And speaking of artificial reefs, the US government just gave us another one on the existing Del-Jersey-Land reef location, named for Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. The former USS Arthur W. Radford, a 598 foot long US Navy destroyer now lies in 130 feet of water off the northeast coast of the US. It will take a few months, but fish will begin to populate this ship very quickly, and in a couple of years, marine growth will be present everywhere.
This is the longest ship ever used for an artificial reef, and it adds to the existing reef structure there, which includes some old New York City subway cars. Makes me wonder what the fish think about when they see the graffiti. :-)
