A Final Goodbye

Ron catches an American shad

This is my last blog post.  Today is the last day you will hear from me directly folks.  All of my articles are still here on the site and will be for quite some time.  So you can read and reference them as you always have.  Thanks to all my faithful readers and followers over the years.  Hopefully my replacement will take up right where I left off and not only continue, but make improvements to the site along the way.  Watch over your kids folks.  Take them fishing.  Teach them to fish and be outdoors, not stuck in front of a TV or computer game.  They are precious and you need to take care of them.  Fishing is  the best way I know to accomplish that, and About.com is the best place to learn how to be a better fishermen and a better parent.

My About.com email address has already been closed off, so one final - so long!  I shall miss each and every one of you!  Merry Christmas and may God bless all of you and your families.

Thank You for reminding me of my Grandfather, Lester C Boyd.
He taught me to fish and wrote for the Providence Journal. He also wrote a very humorous and informative book on Atlantic Surf Fishing.
I have always appreciated what both of you wrote.
Thanks and God Speed.

I have looked forward to Thursday mornings to see what Ron has wrote for quiet a while now. I identify closely with Ron and the respect he holds for his father, his military service, and the bond he has with his family.

I have learned a great deal from his articals. I have been a trout fisherman in WNC since my childhood and learned to love fishing from my Grandfather and my father. I served my country in the Navy Seabees and was assigned to the Marine Corps during the war. I have a groan son and two small grandchildren that love fishing.

My wife and I bought a place at Pawleys Island, SC 4 years ago and I have been introduced to the majic of inshore fishing and Ron has taught me many things.. I have always wanted to say thank you and to say how much that I admire him for the kind of example he displays.

May God bless you and your family, I wish the best for your wife in her fight.

Good luck

Thanks for the great reads Ron! I wish you and your family the very best! Come up and fish the Chesapeake sometime, it’s a great place, and if we can get the Mennhaden population to rebound, perhaps one day it will be that world class saltwater fishing location it has been in the past.

Thanks for your work, Ron.

Writing, and fishing–two very different skill sets; thankfully, you’ve shown proficiency in both.

I only found the About site and your column a couple of years ago. I’ve enjoyed your writing, and become a better fisherman from it.
