Alistair Boddy-Evans, M.Sc. D.I.C. P.G.C.E., is a history and science writer currently based near Cape Town in South Africa.

Experience: Alistair is the co-author of a number of school text books and numerous teacher's guides, roughly half of which are on African history. He has also worked as an illustrator, post-graduate researcher and secondary school teacher. His passion for history has lead him to spend much of his free time researching for an historical novel based in Saharan Africa at the beginning of the fourteenth century and for another set during the second Anglo-Boer War. These are still works in progress. He is an avid reader and collector of knowledge - with a personal library in excess of 4500 books. He believes that history not only teaches us who we are, but enables us to appreciate our own heritage and that of others.

Education: Alistair holds an Honours degree in Civil Engineering, a Masters and DIC in Rock Mechanics and has a post-graduate teaching certificate (PGCE).

From Alistair Boddy-Evans: "Welcome to African History at About.com. This site explores the long and diverse history of the continent on which humans first evolved. If there's anything about the history of Africa that you'd like to know more about, email me and I'll research it."
