New Boat - Week II

by Ron Brooks

Well, two weeks have gone by, and I still have no scratches!  It was frustrating breaking in the engine, because most of my trips involved running just for the sake of running.

I did manage to locate a few good schools of mullet and practice my cast netting technique.  Since moving back to Florida, my cast netting needed some practice anyway!  There are a ton of mullet on the Florida coast right now, and a ton of fish following them.

The most frustrating thing that happened, happened after I got the boat back on the trailer.  As I pulled the boat out of the water and up the ramp, officer friendly pulled up and wanted to check the boat and my catch.  I was out of the water!  The weather was pretty terrible and I guess he didn't have anything else to do.  Heck, I was the only one at the ramp.  I guess it was just coincidence that he stopped my son and I in my son's boat two weeks earlier.

But, I did get an official safe boat decal.  Because I had all the required equipment, he was kind enough to give me the decal.  Maybe that will keep him away on future trips.

The engine is broken in now, and I have a four day trip coming up this next week.  We will see how well the boat does with four people on it instead on just one.  The only thing that I worry about is - I probably will see the first scratch!
