Guide Review
Black Gold with Guts

I fished the BG series of reels for many years and put them through some very rough punishment.  Often they were only rinsed off with a hose and put away for weeks.  They withstood the abuse of saltwater and lack of proper care better than other reels.

The BG-15 is the light saltwater version in this series.  It is built for ten to fourteen pound line, and while it is a bit heavier than other reels in this size, it does perform well.  The solid metal body and anodized finish stand up to years of use in saltwater.

I am particularly impressed with the heavy duty, yet very smooth drag.  The Teflon and stainless steel washers are a part of the reason it holds up as well as it does.

If I were looking for a reel that I could use, abuse, and use again, this would be the one.  If you are an angler that has a hard time taking care of equipment, I would go after this one.
