Animal Rights Activity on the Increase

The anti's are up and awake and making more noise than ever

By Ron Brooks, About.com

It’s a new year. Business organizations have designed, approved and allocated funding for annual budgets as they have for decades. Our animal rights friends and neighbors are no different.

It never ceases to amaze that these folks somehow feel like everyone needs to do things their way – the only way. If my neighbor started planting oak trees in his yard because he didn’t like maple trees, it would not bother me at all – that’s his choice. Just because I prefer maple trees does not give me the right to bombast my neighbor, sabotage his trees, and lobby for laws banning oak trees.

The anti’s would argue that my analogy is faulty logic because they love trees. But, is it really faulty logic? Because I prefer something different than you, I am chastised. I prefer to enjoy animals – God’s creation and provision – while they prefer vegetables – also God’s provision and creation. I don’t run around forcing my preference for a good steak on them. If they choose not to eat meat, it’s their own business. If I prefer to eat meat, it should be my business – and mine alone.

The animal rights folks, on the other hand, would have the entire world eating vegetables – and they push for laws that try to move us in that direction.

If you don’t belong to an organization that trys to protect our rights, you need to get involved.

Watch closely to the happenings over just the past few years. Can you think of any laws that have been passed because of the vocal protests of just a few people? Can you see the morality of our country declining because judges with misplaced values have sent down rulings with which the vast majority of voters disagree? Keep watch!

Anti’s and animal rights groups have taken to the courts and professional lobbyists like never before. If we – you and I – don’t stand up for our rights to the outdoors, to the use of and domestication of animals, and to fishing, we will end up with laws that strike down those very rights.

I think it is admirable that people respect animals. If they want to believe that animals have some type of constitutional rights, I say let them believe what they want. If they want to avoid eating meat, I say let them eat vegetables. But don’t try to push your personal views on me! I’m not forcing you to believe in what I believe. I’m not forcing you to eat what I eat. Your attacks on my beliefs – and the vast majority of others’ beliefs – are offensive to me.
