Hurricane Katrina Relief for Guides

Get a good deal on an auction and help guides in the devatated Gulf Coast Region

By , About.com Guide

A Katrina relief effort has begun to benefit professional guides in the Gulf Regions hit by Hurricane Katrina. According to Paul Price, Director of Online Marketing for World Publications, an online auction has been set up with items donated from the industry and from fellow guides. World Publications publishes Fly Fishing in Salt Waters, Sport Fishing, and Marlin magazines.

While there are numerous efforts underway to help those hit hardest, this is an attempt to help the fishermen there who perhaps lost their boats as well as their sources of income and their homes.

The website located at www.flyfishinsalt.com has all the auction items and rules. According to the site:

"All proceeds -- 100% -- from this auction, will be donated to Guide for the Gulf and will be funneled directly to fishermen impacted in the region. Guide for the Gulf is a grassroots initiative by the fly fishing community, for the fly fishing community. It is a qualified 501 C3 non-profit organization so all bids are tax deductible."
