Ultralights are usually reels that handle six pound test line or less. Some reels are actually designed for 2 pound test line. Prices vary for these little guys, as does quality and saltwater resistance.

1. Shimano Symetre 1500

This reel comes from the midrange of Shimano's spinning reels. It has four ball bearings and Shimano's Super Stopper II anti-reverse rollers and interchangeable left or right hand retrieves, a standard Shimano feature. And now with Anti-rust Bearings (ARB) that last 10 times longer than regular bearings.

2. Penn Spinfisher SSG

Long famous for American made quality, this is Penn's finest ultralight spinning reel. At 9.25 ounces, it holds 140 yards of 6 pound test line. The gear ration is 5.2:1 and the entire reel speaks to the quality of Penn fishing tackle.

3. Daiwa Regal Xi 1000 Spinning Reel

Daiwa's part of the Ultralight world is this z-1500. This one is a little pricier cheaper than the others, but has nine ball bearings and a special twist buster feature to reduce line twist from rotor rotation, a problem common to all spinning reels.
