The Bottom Line

This is a unique method for delivering a bait a long distance and then allowing the bait to be free of any weight. Obviously designed for California tuna and yellowtail boats that use a lot of free-lined live baits over deep water, but has other applications as well.

Pros

  • Environmental Friendly
  • Really leaves your line quickly
  • Works great in offshore deep water fishing

Cons

  • You must have dry hands to put the tape in place
  • A bit pricey since they are not reuseable
  • Hard to use in shallow water applications

Description

  • Completely biodegradable
  • Works well in deep water offshore conditions
  • Dissolves and falls off your line quickly
  • One ounce size makes casting light baits easier

Guide Review - Disinaweight Fishing Weights

I tried some of these weights on a recent trip. They do stay on your line, and the one ounce weight allowed me to cast a long distance.

Just as advertised, the weight came free from the line in about fifteen seconds. In my case the weight took my live bait to the bottom in about six feet of water. A few quick short jerks on the line and fifteen seconds later, I had a swimming bait.

Even though these weights were designed for California applications, they will work extremely well for pier anglers looking for kingfish. They allow the live bait to be cast a long distance out from the pier - then disintegrate and allow the live bait to swim freely.

Surf anglers can also now get a bait well beyond the breakers, yet up off the bottom.

The secret of this whole idea is in the water soluble tape that holds the whole rig together. Care must be taken, because if you get the tape wet, you have lost the whole application. Each package comes with five weights and five pieces of tape.

The weights themselves are biodegradable and dissolve in a short period of time.

This product has some very specific fishing scenarios in which it will work very well if it is used right. Just remember to keep everything dry when rigging them on your line.
