The Bottom Line

The old standby 52M MirrOlure has been around for over fifty years. This new version has the same movements with some new twists. It is an excellent mid to shallow depth lure that produces some vicious strikes.

Pros

  • Realistic holographic sides trigger strikes
  • Two separate line attachments
  • Lifelike scale patterns
  • Excellent color selection

Cons

  • Toothy fish like bluefish will remove the side scale markings

Description

  • Holographic internal foil reflects more light that the original series.
  • Realistic scale markings add to the holographic effect
  • Twin line attachments provide varied diving depths
  • Fourteen different color schemes designed to catch fish - not fishermen.
  • The nose line attachment allows the bait to be fished in shallow water.

Guide Review - MirrOlure S51MR Series III

Growing up in the '50s My fishing buddies and I saved our allowance to take a bus ride to Downtown Miami in order to purchase a good old 52M18 MirrOlure. The old silver/greenback lure caught many snook and small tarpon in the waterways around Miami and Dade County.

Now the L&S Bait company has improved on this classic lure by adding holographic foil and some realistic scaling patterns. I have been fishing with several of them over the past month.

Admittedly, the fishing has been tough because of my local weather. But, I was still able to make some good catches of seatrout and a few redfish. On one trip I got into a school of bluefish - in the three pound range. I could not make a cast and get my red and white Series III back to the boat without a hookup.

I like the color schemes that are available. Unlike so many other lure makers, L&S offers colors that actually catch fish. The chartreuse CFPR and the number 11 red and white colors consistently produced for me. The seatrout could not stay off that red and white.

I used the nose line attachment up against some oyster bars. This new feature lets me work the lure in shallower water than the top line attachment.

The bottom line is that I now have several Series III lures in my tackle box. They work very well. I use a stop and go twitching retrieve that allows the bait to sink slightly during the stop. That nose connection brings the lure back up when I twitch again.

You can't go wrong with an improved old standby lure.
